ASAUB is the only private university in Bangladesh that began functioning with the department of English as one of its first three departments. The founders of ASAUB and the first Vice-chancellor believed that it was necessary to restore the English language that suffered declension in Bangladesh from its inception. The Department of English contributes to the cycle of producing teachers of English some of whom will, in turn, be teachers for the college at the secondary and the primary levels and on the other hand, some will be working as officers and executives serving the nation at various levels.
The English programme offered at ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) with the support of dedicated staff assists students in studying a wide array of literature, using a variety of critical thinking and writing skills to help them become perspective readers, insightful, thinkers, and literature, students at ASAUB Department of English develop a deeper appreciation for and critical understanding of the many cultures that have embraced English language. More importantly, students learn to use language creatively in order to change their world for the better. The Department works with a comprehensive plan for improving the students from what they are at the time of admission to what they should be at the time of obtaining M.A. in English. To achieve that goal, the Department uses the latest state of art equipment and experienced teachers for improving the listening and the speaking skills and offers courses on language for covering up the language inadequacies in students so that they can cope up with the language proficiency demanded by the great literary texts.
Now in the third year of its functioning the Department of English expands from BA (Hons) in English to MA in English, MA in Applied Linguistics and English Language Training (ELT) and Certificate in English Language Proficiency (CELP).
