BA (Honors ) in English

Program Objectives

The Department of English offers Bachelor of Arts in English to instil among the students the essence of intellectual exercises that the western creative writers have made over the centuries in the form of literature and thereby to prepare them as efficient professionals to work at various levels of jobs at both national and international levels.

The Course Contents

The course contents cover the major British authors and their significant works along with major areas related to literary criticism, critical theory, applied linguistics, and language teaching. Besides, classical literatures and literatures from America and the continent have been included in the syllabus.Further,courses from other disciplines - Bangla,Computer Science, History of Europe, Business Communication,Anthropology,Western Philosophy,and Sociolinguistics - have been integrated into the program.

The program is spread over 04 (four) academic years and 12 (twelve) semesters, and consists of 125 (one hundred and twenty five) credits in total. Towards the end of the program - in the fourth year - he /she will have to conduct research under the guidance of a teacher and write a dissertation, In addition, language laboratory will be used more often in courses wherever required.

Admission Requirement

All applicants, regardless of the programme applied for, must have a good academic record and must have achieved the minimum academic qualifications required for admission in the subject. They should also have a clear commitment and motivation for further study and a strong interest in his / her chosen subject. To enter an undergraduate program in ASAUB, the applicant must satisfy:

  • the university's general minimum requirement and
  • the individual program requirement

ASAUB admits students with the potential to pursuing higher education. It welcomes applications from the students regardless of their gender, religion, age, race, national origin, social background, marital or parental status and disability. It is also committed to the principals of widening participation and encouraging applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds. It may be noted that admission in some of our programs is very competitive and fulfilling the minimum requirement does not guarantee admission. ASAUB generally follow a policy of limiting the number of seats in a program which means that some students having eligibility often may not get admission.
