ASA University’s Third Convocation Soon, Courtesy Visit with UGC Chairman
The Honorable Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, Professor Dr. S. M. A. Faiz, was paid a courtesy visit by Professor Dr. S. M. Rezaul Karim, Vice-Chancellor of ASA University Bangladesh, along with the esteemed Board of Trustees member, Professor Dr. Mohammad Faruk.
The meeting was held on Sunday (24 August) at 1:00 p.m. at the UGC office. During the discussion, they exchanged views on the overall progress of the university, its future plans, and various initiatives undertaken to improve the quality of higher education. UGC Chairman Professor Dr. S. M. A. Faiz remarked, “Improving the quality of higher education is a continuous process. Universities must play a significant role in enhancing students’ skills, improving the quality of research, and building a knowledge-based society.”
He encouraged ASA University to maintain academic excellence, prioritize research, and prepare the new generation to meet contemporary challenges. On behalf of ASA University Bangladesh, the Chairman was briefed about preparations for the upcoming Third Convocation. Additionally, considering the growing national demand for technology and agricultural education, the university sought approval and support to introduce essential departments such as Agrotechnology, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), and Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE).
Welcoming these initiatives, the UGC Chairman stated, “The government and UGC will always play a positive role in developing the higher education sector.” He termed the plan to open new departments as timely and suggested further discussions with UGC’s distinguished member Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain.
During the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S. M. Rezaul Karim said, “ASA University Bangladesh is determined to emerge as a quality higher education institution. We aim to take a more active role in research and innovative activities.”
Board of Trustees member Professor Dr. Mohammad Faruk added, “We are working tirelessly to establish an international standard education system for students. The overall support of UGC will serve as a guiding force for us. Especially, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cyber Security are among the most in-demand sciences globally, which we are eager to incorporate into our university.”
He also mentioned that Dr. Mohammed Abdur Rahman, a professor at Prince Muqrin University, Madinah, Saudi Arabia, and an internationally recognized scholar, has assured of providing expert team support in this regard.
Acting Registrar Mrs. Zeenat Tara, along with other university officials, was also present at the meeting.
