ASA University Seeks UGC’s Support to Open CSE, EEE, and Agro-Technology Departments
The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB), Professor Dr. S. M. Rezaul Karim, along with Professor Dr. Mohammad Faruk, a distinguished member of the Board of Trustees (BoT), paid a courtesy call on Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, esteemed member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh. The Acting Registrar of ASAUB, Ms. Jinnat Tara, was also present at the meeting.
The courtesy meeting took place at the UGC office today, Tuesday, at 11:00 AM. During the discussion, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the recent progress and development plans of ASA University. In particular, he presented a proposal to establish three new academic departments at the university and sought the necessary guidance and support from the UGC.
The proposed departments are, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) – with a special focus on Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (AI).Electronics and Electrical Engineering (EEE) – aimed at expanding modern technological and engineering education&Argo-Technology – designed to integrate advanced technology into Bangladesh’s agricultural sector for innovation and sustainable development.
Earlier, on August 24, the Vice-Chancellor and BoT representatives had already placed this proposal before the Honorable UGC Chairman, Professor Dr. S. M. A. Faiz. The Chairman welcomed the initiative and advised the university authorities to hold further discussions with UGC Member Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, which led to today’s meeting.
During the meeting, Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain commended ASAUB’s initiatives for improving the quality of higher education and provided preliminary insights on the proposed departments. He also encouraged the university to expand its research-oriented academic programs and ensure international-standard education.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S. M. Rezaul Karim remarked,“From the very beginning, ASA University Bangladesh has been committed to offering modern and time-befitting academic programs. Currently, the university is running 9 programs under 6 departments. Regular seminars, symposiums, and workshops are organized to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application and research. Recently, ASAUB hosted several international seminars featuring distinguished foreign professors as keynote speakers. We strongly believe that the proposed new departments will create broader opportunities for our students and contribute to meeting the country’s growing demand for skilled professionals.”
